A busy stretch of the M1 in Leicestershire will be closed to traffic in both directions overnight, the Highways Agency has said.

The Catthorpe Interchange at junction 19 will be shut from 21:00 GMT on Tuesday until 06:00 GMT on Wednesday.

It will allow work on the replacement of the Catthorpe Viaduct to be completed.

A short diversion will take traffic off of the carriageway at junction 19 and back via junction 1 of the M6.

The original 3,500-tonne Catthorpe Viaduct was demolished over a 36-hour period in January, but work to replace it started back in July 2010.

The interchange is where the M6, M1 and A14 meet on the border of Warwickshire and Leicestershire.

The viaduct carried M6 southbound traffic over the M1.
