Victoria Park robbery leads to robbery charges

Two teenagers have been charged with robbery after a spate of incidents near a Leicester park.

The accused, aged 15 and 17, were charged in connection with an attack on a 19-year-old on Southernay Road, near Victoria Park, on 16 February.

Since the beginning of the year a total of nine people have been charged over robberies in and around the park.

Police said patrols had increased but advise those using the area to walk with friends and stay in lit areas.

Det Con Eliot Burgess said: "We are pleased to say that there have been no robberies in and around the Victoria Park area in the last 11 days which goes to show that people are heeding our advice and taking the necessary security precautions.

"Officers are still carrying out high visibility patrols in the area to offer reassurance to members of the public but we would still ask people to take a few simple steps to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime."
