Leicester garage fire causes homes to be evacuated

Roads remain closed and fire crews are at the site of a fire at a garage in Leicester.

Firefighters were called to the garage on Doncaster Road in the Belgrave area of the city at about 22:10 BST on Tuesday.

Nearby homes had to be evacuated due to the large number of tyres at the site and at its height, seven fire engines were at the scene.

Leicestershire Police said some minor roads in the area would remain closed.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said two appliances were still at the scene but this would shortly be reduced to one as firefighters continue to dampen down.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
