A 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and rape after a woman was attacked in Leicester.

The woman was sexually assaulted in a car in Richard III Road on 7 July.

Leicestershire Police said it was keen to find out more information about a red hatchback that had St George's flags attached to the back windows.

The man faces two charges of rape and one of attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody and is due before Leicester Crown Court on 1 August.

Det Con Nikki McLatchie said: "Although we have charged someone in relation to this incident I am still keen to gather as much information as possible about this red vehicle.

"I would ask people to take a moment to look at the image and see if you recognise it? Did you see it in the area at the time? If so please get in touch."

Police believe the car drove off towards King Richards Road after the attack at about 03:30 BST.
