Oadby schools road safety work under way

A £225,000 scheme to improve safety outside three Leicestershire schools will benefit 3,000 pupils, officials have said.

Work near Brocks Hill Primary, Gartree High and Beauchamp College in Oadby follows concerns over speeding traffic and inconsiderate parking.

Footpaths are being widened, speed bumps added and a new one-way system put in place.

The county council said changes would be in place for the new school term.

Parking restrictions will also be used to deter inconsiderate parking and provide better visibility for pedestrians, a spokesman said.

Lesley Pendleton, cabinet member for highways, added: "We've created a safety zone outside the three schools, to encourage children and parents to walk or cycle, boosting their fitness and helping the environment."
