A 10-month old puppy has died after being kicked during an attempted robbery in Leicester.

Three men confronted a man as he walked the Jack Russell cross in Brook Road on Thursday evening.

They demanded money and searched him while kicking the dog - called Giggs - which belonged to his brother.

Nothing was taken during the attack, with the men running off in the direction of Scraptoft Lane. The dog later died due to its injuries.

Det Con Jonathan Davies said: "This was a callous crime which has left the victim and his family extremely shocked and distressed.

"Giggs was violently attacked by the suspects and subsequently lost his life. We need to catch those responsible for this despicable crime."

Policehave described the men as white, all wearing hoods over their heads, with one wearing a black hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.

A second had a freckled face, blonde hair and was wearing a black Nike hooded top and dark grey tracksuit bottoms.

The third was wearing a black hooded coat and blue jeans.
