Six arrested in Leicester in sexual assault inquiry

Police have arrested five men and a teenager in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Leicester.

The men, aged 20, 22 25, 27 and 39, and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on Saturday.

Officers said it was a complex investigation which would be lengthy.

They said specialist officers had been working with the victim after her family raised concerns about her welfare.

The six are to remain in custody while inquiries continue.

Det Ch Insp Andy Sharp said: "The victim and her welfare is a key priority for us (and) we will continue to work with her, at a pace she is comfortable with, in order to support her through this process."

They said local officers would continue to talk to residents and community leaders and provide the community with daily updates and reassurance around various rumours and speculation.
