A man was jailed for more than three years for his part in the death of a friend in Oakham.

Neil Corby, 42, was found dead the day after a fight broke out after friends were drinking at his flat, in Gaol Street, in September.

Jamie North, 33, of Glen Drive, Oakham, was jailed for three years and four months for manslaughter and common assault at Leicester Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Mr Corby's lifeless body was found in his flat the morning after several friends visited his home and a fight broke out.

He was punched repeatedly by North, who then left.

Det Supt Neil Castle of Leicestershire police said: "This assault was fuelled by alcohol and a long standing dispute between the victim and the aggressor."

A second man, Adam Barker, 33, will be tried for actual bodily harm next week.
