Two held after armed police close Beaconsfield Road

Two men have been arrested after armed police swooped on a Leicester street.

Police said Beaconsfield Road was closed at the junction with Fosse Road from about 22:00 GMT on Friday.

A spokeswoman from Leicestershire Police said the road had been shut while officers searched a house in relation to two burglaries.

She said there was a possibility of firearms in the house so armed officers were on standby "for the protection of their teams and the public".

The arrested men, aged 31 and 32, remain in police custody.
