An exclusion zone was set up and businesses evacuated after an explosion at an electricity sub station in Leicestershire.

Fire crews were called at about 15:15 GMT after reports of an explosion at the plant on Middlefield Lane in Hinckley.

A spokesman said a cordon was put in place and people moved out of surrounding businesses as a precaution.

There were no initial reports of any injuries.

Two appliances from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue were on standby as engineers isolated the electricity supply.

Reports on social media suggested there had been a loud explosion at the plant.

The cause of the blast is yet to be established but the exclusion zone has been lifted.
