Former Rutland French teacher jailed for sex offences

A former teacher has been jailed for sex offences against two young boys in the 1980s.

Ronald Eyre, 72, from Lincolnshire, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to five counts of indecent assault.

The conviction relates to offences committed by Eyre during his time as a French teacher at Catmose College, Oakham, Rutland.

He was jailed for a total of six years and six months at Leicester Crown Court.

Eyre, of Manchester Way, Grantham, was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

The court heard the offences came to light after one of the victims contacted police, in May.

Officers said the man, who was aged between 12 and 14 at the time of the abuse was sexually assaulted at Eyre's Lincolnshire home, between 1987-1989.

A second victim, who was under 14 at the time, was also sexually assaulted at the house.

Det Con Jamie Carr, of Leicestershire Police, said: "Eyre abused his position of trust and used his victims' young ages and vulnerability to carry out his crimes.

"Both victims showed tremendous courage in coming forward and reporting this man."
