Man appears in court over Leicester hit-and-run death

A teenager has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a boy who was killed in a hit-and-run crash.

Samuel Garner, 17, died after being hit by a car on Welford Road, Leicester on 1 May.

Reece Webster, 19, of Wensley Rise, Leicester, appeared via video link before city magistrates earlier.

He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody until his next hearing at Leicester Crown Court on 7 June.

Mr Webster has also been charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop at an accident, driving without insurance and handling stolen goods.

Samuel Garner, a Leicester City fan, had been returning home after spending the afternoon watching his side's match against Manchester United when the collision happened.

He died at the scene.
