Man critical after group attack in Louth

A 34-year-old man is critically ill in hospital after what police have described as a "particularly violent" attack in Lincolnshire.

A group of people were involved in the assault in Lee Street, Louth, just before 0100 BST on Sunday.

Carl Frith was punched in the face and head and then assaulted again as he lay on the ground, police said.

The victim is being treated for serious head injuries at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

He and a friend got into an argument during the early hours of Sunday morning and were followed by the men onto Lee Street.

Seven Louth men, all in their 20s, are being questioned by police.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack to contact them as soon as possible.
