Lincolnshire hoax caller fined over gunshot claim
Police in Lincolnshire have fined a man after he made a hoax call claiming someone had been shot.
Officers traced the call on Saturday morning to an address on Monks Road in Lincoln, after being sent out to a report of a gunshot wound.
The report was found to be a hoax and a 25-year-old man was issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice for wasting police time.
Ch Insp Simon Craft said hoax callers would not be tolerated.
"Hoax callers waste a huge amount of police time and can prevent resources from being used for urgent incidents which can be a matter of life and death," he said.
"This incident shows the lengths we will go to in order to identify, trace and bring offenders to justice.
"Anyone who considers making a hoax call to the emergency services should see this as a warning and consider the implications of their actions, not only on others, but on themselves," he said.
