Safety work for new Lincolnshire road crossing

Improvements are to be carried out to a crossing on the A57 in Lincolnshire to make it safer, the county council said.

Extra safety measures will be made to the new crossing for cyclists and pedestrians on the road at Odder, near Lincoln.

The work forms part of a wider project to construct a footway and cycleway from the Pyewipe to Saxilby, extending the existing trail from Lincoln.

The council said it was in response to concerns raised from drivers.

Reports from motorists suggested the crossing facility made it difficult to drive through.

Les Outram, of Lincolnshire County Council, said: "The new crossing was engineered within the existing physical constraints. However, recent incidents suggest it is a challenge for some drivers.

"The permanent improvements will include widening the carriageway on both sides, improved bollards at the refuge and central island, including a tall beacon light and modified linings on approaches to the refuge and central island."
