Two people escape from Castle Bytham house fire

Two people have been taken to hospital and a pet dog has died in a house fire in Lincolnshire.

About 27 firefighters were called to High Street in Castle Bytham near Bourne at about 0400 BST.

Station manager Neil Chapman from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said the fire was well alight when crews arrived at the property.

He said the two people were out of the house before firefighters arrived. It is not yet known how the fire started.

"The first crews were faced with a fire coming from the front door," said Station manager Chapman.

"In total we had five appliances here and the house has been severely damaged. The two occupants were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation but I believe they are both ok."

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
