Lincolnshire foster care couple in MBE honour

A couple who foster children in Lincolnshire have been apppointed MBEs in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Jack and Audrey Simmons, from Stamford, are being given the titles in honour of their work helping young people.

Jenny Cripps and Penny Hoey, from Gainsborough, become MBEs for their work restoring Kirton-in-Lindsey's historic town hall.

Education worker Jan Campbell, from Stamford, is appointed OBE for services to education.

The Simmonses, who along with having nine children of their own have fostered more than 80, said they had enjoyed helping young people.

Mrs Simmons said: "It's been our life's work - not work really, it has been a pleasure. It is an occupation and a pleasure and it stops us getting bored!

"We couldn't believe it when we were told, it's magic, we had never even thought of such a thing."
