Skegness safe-dropping thieves filmed on CCTV

Thieves who raided a Lincolnshire nightclub were filmed dropping a safe down stairs as they made their getaway.

Three men pulled up at the LA Cafe on Grand Parade in Skegness in a gold Fiat Doblo at 0504 BST on 25 April, just three minutes after the staff left.

They forced open the back fire door and stole two safes, escaping with more than £30,000 in cash.

CCTV footage of the raid released by police shows the men dropping one safe down the fire-escape stairs.

Taj Bola, owner of the LA Cafe, said the men seemed to know what they were doing.

"They were in and out very quickly indeed, " said Mr Bola. "They knew exactly where to go and what they were doing."

Nine minutes after breaking into the nightclub, then men made off in the Fiat Doblo, stolen from a garage four days earlier.

Det Con Lee St Quinto from Lincolnshire Police said the car was an odd choice of getaway vehicle: "The fiat Doblo is a family car and this one had been converted into a camper van.

"It was stolen four days before the raid and we are keen to know where it was during this time."

The car was found burnt out and abandoned on 26 April at a coastal car park in Chapel Six Marshes.

Police have urged anyone with information about the burglary to contact them.
