Lincolnshire Police warning over house thefts
Residents in part of Lincolnshire are being warned to lock windows and doors, even when at home, to deter burglars.
In 2010, Lincolnshire Police said there were 142 burglaries committed through unlocked doors and windows across the Boston and East Lindsey areas.
Pc Nic Hanson said even if residents were at home, they should make sure their properties were secure.
A community safety event is being held on Boston's Market Place on Wednesday, organised by Lincolnshire Police.
"We cannot stress enough the importance of ensuring your property is secure when you go out and when you retire to bed at night," said Pc Hanson.
"Remembering to lock your door is one burglary deterrent that requires no installation, no financial investment and couldn't be simpler."
He added it took burglars just seconds to break in and steal people's possessions.
A number of further events are taking place throughout June.
