Lincolnshire Police warns of bogus water board scam

Police are warning elderly people and their relatives that criminals posing as water board officials are operating in Lincolnshire.

A man called at the house of a 91-year-old woman in Harrowby Road, Grantham, on 28 June posing as a water board official.

He asked to come into the property to repair a leak but was refused entry.

The offender was described as being in his 20s and between 5ft 7in and 5ft 10in tall, with fair hair.

Police said similar incidents had taken place recently in Louth and Spalding.

Officers are warning people to be on the lookout for criminals using the same method.

Inspector Phil Taylor said: "We know that these offenders pretend to be from the Water Board to get into people's homes and then steal cash and they deliberately target the elderly and vulnerable."
