A woman and three young children have been taken to hospital after an arson attack in Lincoln.

Emergency services were called to Scorer Street at about 0130 BST to reports a house was alight.

Neighbours helped put out the fire but the 26-year-old woman and the children aged four, two and one were treated for smoke inhalation.

The property had suffered substantial damage and police have begun an investigation.

Those affected are expected to be discharged from hospital later.

Police said they believed the fire had been started at the front door and have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
