Lincolnshire driver arrested after fatal crash

A man has been arrested after a road crash in Lincolnshire in which a 70-year-old man was fatally injured.

A Ford Transit van and Suzuki Swift collided on the B1190 between Thimbleby and Horsington, near Horncastle, just before noon on Wednesday.

The driver of the Swift, 70-year-old John Hextall from Bucknall, was airlifted to hospital but died later.

The van driver, a 21-year-old man from Horncastle, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He was later released on police bail.

Police have appealed for witnesses and would particularly like to trace the female driver of a silver Vauxhall Astra who stopped at the scene.

The death brings to 24 the number of deaths on Lincolnshire's roads this year compared to 20 at the same point last year, officers said.
