Murder suspect Stephen Sleaford arrested in Barnsley

Police have arrested a 37-year-old murder suspect after a week-long manhunt.

Stephen Sleaford, of Boston, Lincolnshire, was arrested in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on Thursday.

He was wanted over the death of Janusz Smoderek, 48, who was found stabbed in a garden in Sleaford Road, of Boston, on 11 September.

A 26-year-old woman from Barnsley has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Det Supt Stuart Morrison said: "I am grateful for the co-operation of the public who have contacted us with information about possible sightings".

Police said Mr Smoderek died after an altercation close to a nearby Asda store.

Mr Smoderek, who was married, had three children and lived in the Revesby Avenue area of Boston, is understood to have worked at a local vegetable packing firm.
