Grantham thieves steal Christmas presents

Police in a Lincolnshire town are warning people to keep Christmas presents out of sight after a number of burglaries.

On 14 December, thieves broke into a house on Cliffe Road, Grantham, and stole jewellery, watches and a wrapped Christmas present from under the tree.

Later the same day, thieves took two flat-screen TVs which had been wrapped from a house on Abbey Lane, Sedgebrook.

Lincolnshire Police's Insp Phil Taylor urged homeowners to take care.

"Thieves do target houses where they can see Christmas presents through windows at this time of year," said Insp Taylor.

"It's a good idea to position your tree out of view from windows or keep the curtains in that room closed in the day.

"It's also a good idea to fit cheap timer switches to lights in other rooms and set them to come on in the late afternoon before you get home from work.

"It just makes your house look occupied and means thieves will probably pass it over," he added.
