Two people who died in Rutland A1 road crash are named

Two people who died in a two-car crash on the A1 in Rutland have been named by Leicestershire police.

Norman Searles, 79 who was driving a Rover 400, and passenger June Searles, 77, from Kent, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers are said to be in a stable condition.

The vehicle and a Vauxhall Vectra collided near the Lincolnshire border on Sunday at about 16:30 GMT.

Police said the driver and a passenger in the Vectra received minor injuries.

Det Con Pete Davies, from Leicestershire Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "The Rover was travelling southbound on the A1 towards Stamford and the Vectra was travelling in the opposite direction when it left the carriageway when the collision occurred.

"We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw either vehicle beforehand."
