Grantham road closed after men throw stones from roof

Police in Grantham Four men were seen on CCTV climbing on to the roof at about 06:15 BST

Police closed a road in the centre of Grantham after two suspected burglars started throwing stones and coins from the roof of a building.

The men, aged 23 and 27, started throwing objects after police responded to reports of a burglary at Vibe nightclub in Westgate at 06:15 BST.

Officers negotiated with them for about six hours before they came down and were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Two other men, aged 21 and 22, were also arrested over the burglary.

Four men had been spotted by CCTV operators climbing on to the roof of The George Shopping Centre in the town.

Two of the men came down voluntarily when police arrived.

Guildhall Street was closed at the junction with the High Street for a number of hours, while police dealt with the incident.

Ch Insp Mark Housley said: "We realise this must have been extremely frustrating for businesses, shoppers and residents in the area and we would like to thank them for their tolerance while we carried out our operation."
