An 84-year-old woman has died following a fire at a house in Lincolnshire.

The blaze broke out in a ground floor annexe of a property in Weydike Bank, Fleet, near Holbeach, at about 19:30 GMT on Thursday.

Three other people were treated for the effects of breathing in smoke after crews from Holbeach, Long Sutton and Spalding tackled the fire.

The cause is not yet known and an investigation is under way, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said.

The woman's granddaughter told BBC Radio Lincolnshire the family was devastated by what had happened.

She said her grandmother had come home early from bingo and would not normally have been in the house at the time of the blaze.

Family members tried to tackle the fire before the emergency services arrived, she added.

A spokesman for the fire service said it had taken hold "extremely quickly".

At this stage it is not thought to be suspicious.
