A man has died in hospital after he was stabbed at a block of flats in Lincoln.

Police said the 39-year-old was attacked in Walnut Place, in the Sincil Bank area of the city, on Friday evening.

Detectives have begun a murder investigation and said a post-mortem examination would be carried out to establish the exact cause of his death.

A 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the stabbing.

A full forensic examination of the scene is under way.

Det Ch Insp Martin Holvey said: "This is a tragedy for the deceased man and his family and friends.

"We are working hard to establish what happened. To that end officers will be conducting house-to-house inquires in the area.

"We need to build up a picture of the circumstances leading up to the stabbing."
