A paper packaging factory has been destroyed in a fire which broke out in the early hours.

Firefighters were called to the Grantham Manufacturing factory in the Alma Park Industrial Estate in Grantham at 04:00 BST.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said seven appliances had been sent to the scene and roads in the area were closed.

The fire caused part of the factory roof to collapse and damaged machinery. No-one was hurt.

Martin Howitt, who owns the firm with his brother Colin, told the Grantham Journal: "I felt sick when I heard. When you see a lifetime's work going up in flames that is how you feel.

"Some of my staff have worked here for more than 30 years. But we are already working out a contingency plan to continue the business and support our customers."
