Murder inquiry over Gainsborough stab death

A man has been found stabbed to death at a house in Lincolnshire prompting a murder inquiry, police have said.

Officers were called to a house on Ropery Road, Gainsborough, late on Sunday evening. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lincolnshire Police he is believed to be 44-year-old Jonathon 'Willy' Baines.

A force spokesman said two people have been arrested and appealed for witnesses.

He said formal identification had not taken place but Mr Baines' family had been informed.

Det Insp Jim Hodgson said: "We know that Jonathon spent yesterday afternoon at the Market Rasen races and visited pubs on his return to Gainsborough.

"We don't know which premises or who he was with, so we urgently want to hear from people who either saw him or spoke to him."
