Man dies in River Welland car crash

A man died after the car he was driving left the road and ended up in a river.

The man, who has not been named, was rescued from a VW Golf which crashed into the River Welland, near Crowland, on Wednesday night.

He was taken to Peterborough hospital, but later died, Lincolnshire Police said.

A recovery operation is under way to remove the vehicle from the water, and police are appealing for witnesses.

This death brings to 39 the number killed on Lincolnshire's roads in 2016.
