A seven-year-old boy who was dragged along beneath a van for 20 yards in a hit-and-run crash has died.

Ehsaan Haque was hit moments after getting out of his uncle's car in Ilford, east London, last month.

The boy, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, had since been in a critical condition in Southampton General Hospital.

The driver, who drove off after walking over to where the injured boy lay, has not been traced despite an e-fit being released.

Ehsaan was hit as he visited relatives in Leyswood Drive at about 1715 BST on 28 July.

The van was driven for 20 yards while he was under the vehicle.

It carried on for a further 30 yards before the driver stopped and walked back to where the boy lay. He then drove off, turning left on to the A12, police said.

The driver was described as white with blonde, spiky hair.

The van, thought to have been made between 1995 and 2001, was blue with three roof bars running down the length of the vehicle.

Det Insp Simon Sharp said: "We urgently appeal to the driver of the van to come forward and ask anyone who recognises either the man in the e-fit or the van to contact us."
