Man faces murder charge over attack on rough sleepers

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after an attack on three homeless people in east London.

The three men were assaulted on Wednesday as they slept rough near Buckingham Road Cemetery in Ilford.

A 31-year-old man, who has not been identified, suffered serious head and neck injuries and died. The two other men remain seriously ill in hospital.

Pardeep Singh, 43, of Town Road, Edmonton, north London, is due before Enfield magistrates on Tuesday.

Mr Singh, who was arrested on Saturday, faces one charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Det Ch Insp John MacDonald has said he believed the men, who frequently slept in a car park near Clark's Road, were attacked between 2300 BST and midnight on Wednesday.

One of the men, aged 58, was found injured at about 0100 BST on Thursday.

That afternoon at about 1530 BST officers discovered a 42-year-old man had also been hurt.

The man third man was found at about 2000 BST the same day and pronounced dead at the scene.
