Roads reopen near Blackwall Tunnel after scrapyard fire

Roads have reopened around the Blackwall Tunnel after a fire at a nearby scrapyard caused major traffic problems.

About 30 firefighters tackled the blaze in St Leonard's Walk in Bow which began at about 0200 GMT on Saturday.

Smoke from the scrapyard had closed one lane of the Blackwall Tunnel Approach in Bow and other roads, causing traffic queues for most of Saturday.

The fire is now out and traffic is flowing normally.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said 80% of the scrapyard, which had about 100 tonnes of cars and tyres, was damaged and 20% of an industrial building was destroyed.

A 25kg propane cylinder also had to be removed.
