Man murdered father and hid his body in a carpet

A man has pleaded guilty to murdering his father and hiding his body in a carpet at the family home.

Charles Heath's body was not found until six weeks after he was last seen in October 2009, the Old Bailey heard.

The 65-year-old retired French polisher was attacked with a hammer but the exact cause of death was unclear because of the time which had elapsed.

Jobless John Heath, 34, of Oban Street, Poplar, east London, pleaded guilty to murder and perverting justice.

Police found Charles Heath's body in a bedroom at the Oban Street home after complaints from neighbours.

John Heath was remanded in custody to be sentenced on Thursday.

His brother Robert, 28, pleaded guilty to perverting justice and was also remanded until Thursday.

The prosecution indicated that a murder charge against Robert Heath would be dropped.
