7/7 police officer jailed for £12,000 rent fraud
A Met Police detective investigating the 7/7 London suicide bombers has been jailed for 12 months for a £12,000 rent scam.
Det Sgt Andrew Bramwell, 46, was sent to Leeds in 2006 with a team to investigate the bombers and they were given credit cards for expenses.
He withdrew £11,540 for their rent but an investigation found it had already been paid by another officer.
Bramwell has also been dismissed with immediate effect.
He was found guilty of fraud and false accounting at Southwark Crown Court.
A Met Police spokesman said: "Whilst the Met was facing difficult times Bramwell saw an opportunity to financially gain from his situation and tried to cover his tracks.
"This case illustrates the on-going commitment of the Met to tackling any form of corruption or wrong-doing."
The conviction and sacking follow an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
