Up to 100 firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at an industrial estate in west London.

Crews were called to the Rainbow Industrial Estate in Trout Road, West Drayton, where part of a large warehouse is alight.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said about 30 employees from the site and 40 people from nearby homes had been moved to safety as a precaution.

The High Road was closed and traffic has been building up in the area.

LFB said its crews had been using five hose jets and two aerial ladders to fight the fire which was giving off dense, black smoke.

Station manager Matthew Burrows said they were working hard to get the fire under control as soon as possible.

He said: "We are tackling the blaze from three different sides to prevent it from spreading to other units.

"A number of nearby residential properties have been evacuated as a precaution as one gas cylinder is involved in the fire."

A Hillingdon Council spokeswoman said some of the residents had gathered in the local library which had been kept open longer than normal to accommodate them.

She said she hoped they would be able to return home later tonight.

A brigade spokesman said the cause of the fire was not known.
