Drugs worth £1.4m seized at Heathrow Airport

UK Border Agency officers at Heathrow Airport drugs with a street value of about £1.4m, in one of the biggest drugs seizures at the airport this year.

Cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines were found in wrapped packages inside two suitcases that had come off a flight from Amsterdam into Terminal 5, the UK Border Agency said.

A 47-year-old man arrested on Monday and charged with attempting to import controlled drugs. He was to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

About 33 kg of cocaine, 2kg of heroin and 2kg of methamphetamines were found, the UK Border Agency said.

UK Border Agency Heathrow Director Graeme Kyle said: "As this detection shows, our officers are on constant alert, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep class A drugs and other banned substances out of the UK."
