Student protests: Charges over 9 December violence

Eleven people have been charged over violence at a demonstration in London on 9 December, against the increase in tuition fees.

They are aged between 15 and 21, and have been accused of offences including violent disorder, affray and criminal damage, the Metropolitan Police said.

Trouble flared when some people broke away from the main rally.

A car carrying the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall was also targeted by a group that evening.

Eight of those charged were bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, central London, on 9 June.

The other three, who are under 18, were bailed until 24 May, when they are due before West London Youth Court.

They were given police bail.

In addition to the charges a 16-year-old boy received a final warning for possessing cannabis and a boy of 17 was given a final warning for violent disorder.

Criminal damage

One of those charged is Alfie Meadows, 20, who suffered head injuries during the protest.

A separate Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation is under way into allegations that he was was struck by a police truncheon.

Those facing charges include:

• Kareem Dennis, 25, of Swinford Gardens, Loughborough Junction, south London - charged with affray and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• Rhys Gray, 21, of Ennismore Mews, Knightsbridge, central London - charged with two counts of criminal damage and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• Andrew Guy, 21, of Petersfield Rise, Roehampton, south-west London - charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• Jonathan Johnson, 20, of Gowland Close, Croydon, south London - charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• Zac King, 19, of South Lees Orchard, Street, Somerset - charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• Alfred Meadows, 20, of Brixton Water Lane, Brixton, south London - charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June.

• Sahim Tasyurdu, 18, of Colville Estate, Hackney, east London - charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• A 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons has been charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 June

• Three males aged 15, 16 and 17, were charged with violent disorder and bailed to appear at West London Youth Court on 24 May
