Fourth youth charged over Peckham teenager's murder

A fourth teenager has been accused of murdering a 17-year-old athlete who was shot dead in south London, police said.

Sylvester Akapalara, of Streatham, was shot in the neck and chest in a stairwell on the Pelican Estate in Peckham on 29 December.

The 16-year-old boy, has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and wounding with intent.

The youth, of no fixed address, will appear at Camberwell Green Youth Court on Thursday.

He was also charged with the possession of a firearm and possession of an offensive weapon. Three other teenagers face the same charges.

David Nyamupfukudza, 18, of New Cross, Sodiq Adeojo, 18, of Shurland Gardens, Peckham, and a 17-year-old, were remanded in custody when they appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court in January.

All three will appear at the Old Bailey on 6 June.

The victim was a Sierra Leonian national who was said be in the top 30 400m runners in England.
