Fifth teenager charged over Peckham 17-year-old murder

A fifth teenager has been accused of murdering a 17-year-old athlete who was shot dead in south London.

Sylvester Akapalara, of Streatham, was shot in the neck and chest in a stairwell on the Pelican Estate in Peckham on 29 December.

Kenny Imafidon has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and wounding with intent.

The 18-year-old will appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Mr Imafidon, of Bishop Wilfred Wood Close, Peckham, is also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Four other teenagers face the same charges.

David Nyamupfukudza, 18, of New Cross; Sodiq Adeojo, 18, of Shurland Gardens, Peckham, and a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old were remanded in custody when they appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court earlier this year.

All four will appear at the Old Bailey on 17 October.

The victim was a Sierra Leonian national who was said be in the top 30 400m runners in England.
