Brixton assault leaves man critically ill

A man is critically ill after being struck over the head with a blunt object, police have revealed.

The victim was attacked in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, south London, at about 2305 BST on Thursday.

The Metropolitan Police discovered him lying unconscious outside a KFC restaurant. They are looking for three suspects all said to be in their 30s.

Coldharbour Lane was closed in both directions following the incident. No arrests have been made.

'Yet to trace'

Police believe that the victim and two friends were involved in an altercation with three other men.

They think this led to one of the suspects attacking the victim, hitting him over the head.

Det Insp Will Reynolds said: "We have yet to trace the two friends that were with the victim. They had left the scene prior to police arrival.

"We urge them to come forward and make themselves known. They are key to understanding what may have led up to the altercation.

"We stress that they are needed as potential witnesses and are not being treated as suspects."
