Police officer hit over head with bottle in Bexleyheath

An off-duty police officer was hit over the head with a bottle as he tried to stop a man acting suspiciously in a car park.

The officer, 32, was assaulted when he tried to stop a man "interfering with cars" in Albion Road, Bexleyheath, south-east London, on Friday morning.

He suffered cuts to the head and required minor hospital treatment.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.
