Royal Horticultural Halls library fire in London

A fire has broken out in the library of a Grade II listed building in central London, leading to an evacuation involving about 200 people.

It began in a storage area in the basement of the Royal Horticultural Halls in Vincent Square, Westminster, at about 11:40 BST.

Thirty firefighters spent about an hour and a half extinguishing it, London Fire Brigade said.

Staff are working to recover any materials and books which were damaged.

Neither the extent of the damage nor the cause of the fire is known at present.
