Girl critically ill after being hit by car in Downham

A nine-year-old girl is in a critical condition after being struck by a car in south-east London.

Police officers and the ambulance service were called to the collision in Bromley Road, Downham on Sunday.

The girl, who lives locally, was taken to hospital, where her condition is described as critical.

The 22-year-old driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He has been released on police bail until October, pending further inquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 19:00 BST.
