Police officers to appear in court over assault allegations

Three police officers are to be prosecuted for assault following a police watchdog investigation.

It relates to an incident in March when police stopped a car on the approach to the A40 at Hanger Lane, west London.

Two men who were inside the car alleged they were assaulted, which led to the investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

PC Anthony Read, 35, PC Karl Bartlett, 42, and PC Colin Nye, 37, are to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court.

They will be charged with common assault at the hearing on 28 September, the IPCC said.

The officers were in the Metropolitan Police Service's Territorial Support Group at the time of the incident.
