The son of a senior London politician has died in Thailand.

Andrew Lister, son of deputy mayor and chief of staff Sir Edward Lister, is believed to have fallen ill in the room of his guesthouse on the holiday island of Koh Phangan.

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed the death of a British national on the island on 12 September. He said the family had been contacted.

Sir Edward was appointed following the death of Sir Simon Milton.
