Patricia Malcolm cleared of fire murder in Catford

A woman has been cleared of murdering a man who was set alight in his home.

The prosecution offered no evidence against Patricia Malcolm, 52, after two juries failed to reach verdicts in the case at the Old Bailey.

She was formally found not guilty by the judge but jailed for 18 months for stealing money from Frank Hancock, 63.

Malcolm, of Catford, south London, admitted theft and attempting to withdraw money from his account, but denied killing him in February 2010.

Mr Hancock died five days after an accelerant was poured over him and he was set alight in the kitchen of his home in Pattenden Road, Catford.
