Finchley sex attacks: Three women assaulted near Tube

Three women in their 20s have been assaulted - apparently by the same man - in the past week in the same area of north London, police have said.

All were approached from behind on side streets near Finchley Central and West Finchley Tube stations by an attacker who covered their mouths, they added.

He ran off on each occasion after the victims screamed and put up a struggle.

Police described the man as in his mid-30s and between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall. He is also slim and tanned.

He wore blue jeans with formal-looking black shoes and smelled of cigarette smoke, they said.

Victims threatened

The first two assaults took place on 19 October, with the first at 18:15 BST on Elm Park Road, and the second at 20:00 BST on Clifton Avenue.

The third woman was targeted in Essex Park at 22:50 BST on 23 October.

Two of the victims were told to stay quiet and then touched in a sexual manner.

He also threatened to harm one woman.

Police have reminded women to ensure they are aware of people around them when walking in the area, to consider travelling in numbers, and to plan for emergencies.

Additional patrols are being deployed around Finchley and potential witnesses to the three attacks have been urged to come forward.
