A property developer who was murdered in his home in west London had been living "a complex and reclusive life for some time", Scotland Yard has said.

William Saunderson-Smith, who was often known as John, was found in Dewhurst Road, West Kensington, on 21 October.

The 58-year-old had suffered a fatal head injury caused by blunt trauma, some time between 19:00 BST on 20 October and the early the next day.

Police said they were still trying to locate all of his relatives.

An inquest into the death has already begun, however.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who knew him and may assist us in building a picture about his life," said Det Ch Insp Howard Grove of the Metropolitan Police.

He also appealed for anyone who had seen anything suspicious in the Dewhurst Road area to come forward.

No arrests have been made and no weapon has been found.
